Game On: Heropath- Dragon Roar
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
Heropath was designed and developed by a team at Unique Games. Izik Nevo is the author and creator of the game who lead the team. Izik is the CEO of the company BGD Board Game Distribution LLC. Heropath is the first game created by Unique Games. It had been in development for the past three years when they made it public.
Unique Games being new to the industry decided to work with Kickstarter to launch their game. While at Essen, the Heropath booth was across from the Keep Exploring Games booth and they became friends. Martin Looij of Keep Exploring Games was impressed by their artwork offered to help them run their Kickstarter campaign. The campaign for Heropath launched on January 2, 2018 and was 50% funded in the first six hours of the campaign. Their game was funded within the first 42 hours of the launch. They had prepared a long list of stretch goals to give supporters more value for their money including a solo mode, food, and new places to explore within the game. The company was successfully able to raise all of the money that they needed for their game by the end of the month.
The story behind Heropath is a fantasy game that incorporates features of a Euro Classic Game, it allows for precise logistic planning. It has triangle cards holder that is new. Heroes join together to fight forces of evil and even though they start together each of them will have to walk their own path and visit different areas of the game in order to fight monsters and dragons. Each hero will choose when to cooperate and when to be deceitful. The most powerful hero will be the one to fight the dragon. The heroes will at first be competing against one another, as the game goes on, the heroes will find that the evil level will rise and eventually they will be fighting the game itself.
There are some fun and unique features to Heropath that are new to the gaming industry such as the triangular cards that stand up as the place sites. This allows all of the players to view the card from a 3D angle. The game has nice artwork and the hero boards that are found within the game are very picturesque and detailed. Expansion kits have been added to the game so that you can play with up to six players. The expansion kits include a wizard, or you can choose a giant.
