“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

The Air Deck 2.0 travel play cards were released by Tiptop Things. Tiptop Things was started by a group of friends that are working to improve and optimize everyday items. They believe that things should be made to the best extent that they can possibly be. Their company also considers the environment in everything that they do. Tip top went to several of the world’s best manufacturers of cards to  find the best materials that they could provide for the creation of these cards. They ended up trying out over 50 different high end plastic materials. Each of the materials were tested by bending and handling tests to figure out which would be the best candidate for the job.

The Air Deck 2.0 Campaign launched on Kickstarter on January 6, 2019, and was funded by 300% in the first 24 hours. The team came up with some stretch goals to add to the campaign that included tropicana cards and plus plus card designs on the back of the cards. Within 2 weeks they had 2,000 backers and raised $40,000 for the printing of their Air Decks. By February 6th they had 4000 backers and were 1500% funded. By the end of the campaign the creators had their expectations blown out of the water ending with a total of 7167 backers raising $144k.

The idea behind the Air Deck 2.0 traveling cards is to provide a deck that is as light as possible. The Air Deck is the ultimate traveling placards that are light and easy to carry. You can easily fit them into your pocket or travel bag and they won’t take up too much space. Air Deck is now releasing some new designs based on feedback from the community to better your card playing experience. These cards are made to be brought everywhere and can be used in very cramped environments such as a train or plane table. The thin design makes it so that you can lay more cards out at one time.

The Air Deck 2.0 features all of the playing cards that a regular deck does. The cards are waterproof and washable, the are a compact and friendly travel size, because of their thin design the cards are very light weight. They are made from durable and heavy duty casino quality PVC. The printing that is on the cards is very good quality and they are slightly textured on both sides for better handling. The Air Deck 2.0 is made with the same high-quality materials as the original, but a few upgrades have been made to them. The new decks are more resilient to wear and tear. The boxes are upgraded to .4mm waterproof synthetic paper which makes them more durable that the original campaign. The ink is now also more scratch resistant.
