“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Tudor was created by Academy Games which specializes in fun and engaging games that impart social and historical learning for game enthusiasts, schools, museums, universities and military personnel. Their games are quick to learn and fun to play. Academy Games has won many awards for their games which are based on historical situations.  Each of their games include a map that describe historical situations, why they occurred, and what the outcome was of the original conflict. Some of the other games that they have released are Birth of Europe, Birth of America, Conflict of Heroes Series, Fog of War, Freedom, and Eurogames. Their games are known to be both accessible and deeply strategic. For the creation of Tudor Academy partnered with Corax Games.

The release of the game Tudor was very popular on Kickstarter and was completely funded within 2 hours with two stretch goals unlocked. With their release they were able to make a special miniature of King Henry VII to give away for those who had made pledges early. With the stretch goals that followed the release Academy Games was able to unlock 60 miniatures. They were able to raise a total of $108,750 with 1,562 backers Academy Games did a live unboxing of the game on their campaign.

Tudor is a game that is about being a Lord in the court of King Henry VII. Players use strategy to position nobles among influential Lords in order to gain positions of power that are represented by rings. You can take turns placing courtiers into the audience chambers with Lords that will help them to gain access to the throne room. While you are in the throne room you can gather court tokens that help you to win victory points. When you reach the front of the court you are given a position of power which gains you a ring. When you position your rings on the fingers you can activate upgrades. Other players can work to unseat you and steal the rings that you have gained.

The game includes hands that can be set up and the rings displayed on the front of the hand. On the back of the hand is actions that you can take based on the ring that you place on that finger. The game comes with quality meeples that represent the Lords and the people who are trying to gain position. The game has won the attention of positive reviews from names in the industry like Geek Attitude Games, The Mile High Game Guys, Mebo Games, and Game Boy Geek.
