“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Treasure Mountain was created by August Games, which is tabletop design group and publisher of hobby games. They are known for their elegant design with compelling themes. Daniel George had his first idea for a game while he was on a beach trip with his wife and the two were sharing a cooler full of beer. He looked at his spent beer bottle and thought how amazing it would be to have a game where beers were brewed in a fantasy world. In a single beer soaked afternoon on a beach he was able to come up with the core engine, goals, and theme for the game. They eventually released their first game which was Dragon’s Brew which was very popular as a first release and was 201% funded.

The next game that August Games undertook was Treasure Mountain which was equally as popular. It was 93% funded overnight. By the end of 5 days their campaign was 130% funded and starting to unlock stretch goals. They released sketches of the metal coins that they were planning to add to the game. During their campaign launch Daniel and Mac were guests on Dragons Demise Podcast and Tantrum House to talk about their game. This helped to push them to over 150% and they were able to unlock a printed axe back. They were able to reach 260% funded and raise over $65,000 for the production of their game.

In Treasure Mountain the Dwarf clan has been chosen by the king to mine all of the rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds that are buried deep within the mountain. Victory points are earned when players are able to dig deep and gain gems. Dragons pop up here and there for players to slay with their axes if the dragons are not slain then they can claim all of the treasure of the Dwarf that disturbed them. The Player with the most victory points at the end of the game is the winner. Dwarves with longer beards are given preference in the game and they are able to bump smaller bearded dwarves out of the way so that they can perform their action and steal victory points.

Treasure Mountain lot of fun features and parts. It has all of the bling with over 280 acrylic gems for the players to earn while mining. And tiles that can be played through the game. It can be played with an Automa card or in Solo Mode. The Automa decks are used to simulate the actions of another player in the game. The Automa players claim action space, score points, fight dragons, and collect treasure like normal players. The Automa players score points throughout the game which helps to create tension.
