Game On: Summit: Teams Expansion (En/Fr/De)
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.”
The game Summit was created by a Canadian board game company called Inside up Games. Summit was their first board game on Kickstarter and was released in July 2016. They followed that up quickly with the creation and release of Yeti which was an expansion of Summit. The company also released Vault Assault that year. Gorus Maximus is another title that the company has released since then.
Inside Up games released an expansion of Summit, Teams, on Kickstarter on March 5 2019. Their Campaign was completely funded within 6 hours of release. By the next day they had also reached past another stretch goal. They were able to add custom card sleeves, spot UV tiles, and metal coins for the game in their stretch goals. They let the backers help choose which of the color finishes to put on the metal coins that were going to be in the game. The project successfully funded by March 26 raising over $40,000.
Summit is a survival game where players are trying to climb a deadly mountain. In the competitive version, players must manage resources, build their path, overcome obstacles, and attempt to survive their competition. The game has a Karma system where players can either help or hinder their opponents. They can gain points by helping opponents or loose a few by cutting their rope and letting them fall down the mountain. The game is grueling and in order for a team to win only one player needs to survive the ascent and descent of the mountain. In the cooperative version, players will sometimes sacrifice themselves so that their team will survive.
In both expansions, Yeti and Teams, players can experience Summit whether competitively or cooperatively as a team. One of the most important aspects of the Teams expansion is the introduction of climbing ladders. Ladders are square tiles that are played over the triangular tiles to help with escaping tricky situations and move through the terrain faster. The Teams expansion also includes new player boards, along with Item, Event and Karma cards.
