Delivered: Dr. Livingston’s Human Anatomy Puzzles
“Delivered:” is a series in which we look at crowdfunded ideas that have successfully shipped to their supporters. We dive into the final product, after its long journey from concept to fulfillment.
Dr. Livingston’s Human Anatomy Puzzles, created by Genius Games, is a set of anatomy puzzles that are a 100% accurate depiction of the human body magnified by 200%. Three separate puzzles of the head and neck, the human thorax, and the human abdomen when put together create one giant connected puzzle. The puzzles feature stunning art created by Mesa Schumacher, a certified Medical Illustrator from John Hopkins University.
The puzzles are beautiful, with high-quality thick puzzle pieces. While each set has less than 600 pieces, they are designed in a complex pattern and it still took me 2 days and several hours to complete one. It was a great way to learn more about the human body and teach my children anatomy from the pieces. The magnified look inside the anatomy of our body is very intricate and knowing it’s 100% accurate makes it a fun way to learn.
When all three puzzle sets are combined, they equal a 5-foot replica of the human body from head to torso. The head puzzle measuring 23 inches, the thorax measure 21 inches, and the abdomen measuring 24.3 inches. Each box is designed to look like a vintage medical textbook including the box sides which look like the spin and pages of a book. The artist, Mesa Schumacher, has worked in scientific and medical visualization for over ten years and loves problems that wrinkle her brain. Her talent shines beautifully through these puzzles.
