Game On: Hero Realms: Journeys
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
Rob Dougherty, CEO of White Wizard Games released a new expansion set for the Hero Realms series, Hero Realms Journeys on Kickstarter. In his more than 20 years in the gaming world, his experience includes Co-Creator of The Star Realms and Hero Realms Deckbuilding games, designer and co-creator of Epic Card Game, and even opened his own game store. With the release of Hero Realms, two years prior, the White Wizard Games team heard from the fans who said they wanted more characters and campaign decks so they released a new Kickstarter Campaign for their Journeys sets. White Wizard Games has raised nearly $2 Million in Kickstarter campaigns to make their games come to life.
Hero Realms: Journeys was launched on Kickstarter in November 2018 and reached its funding goal of $50,000 in under one hour. Throughout the campaign 23 stretch goals were unlocked and 5 social stretch goals that earned backers new relics and quests to the game. White Wizard Games announced a playmat based on suggestions from the comment section and their stretch goals brought in more characters and promo cards to the deck. The campaign finished December 6, 2018, with 7,587 backers pledging $513,845 for this project to come to life.
The Journeys pack features six new Hero Realms sets that include 12-card Hunters and Travelers packs and new Champions and Actions. The Conquest and Discovery packs have 6 new quests and relic cards that allow players to go on secret quests at the start of the game and gaining power as they complete them. There is an Ancestry pack that allows players to use the Hero Realms as a Dwarf, Elf, Ogre, Orc, or Smallfolk and combine with any character pack creating up to 30 new race/class combinations.
The Hero Realms game is fun and easy to learn and the new cards from the Journeys pack bring an exciting new game experience and fresh gameplay for the seasoned Hero Realms Player. The game begins in an abandoned village that has become overrun by beasts. Players must feed the creatures and find out what happened to the village people. As the game develops, players rescue the villagers if they’re alive, or avenge their deaths. Together players face the deadly creatures, find treasure, and earn experience to improve their characters’ skills and abilities.
