Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Snowdale Design joined forces with Board Game Circus to release the Dale of Merchants Collection, the third game in the series after the original Dale of Merchants and Dale of Merchants 2. Sami Laakso, the game design and illustrator, took the lead of this Kickstarter campaign. The other team members were Ville Reinikainen, theming, and rulebook editing. Seppo Kuukasjarvi, theming, and playtesting. Talvikki Eskelined, world-building. And Daniel Theurerkaufer, Kickstarter support.

Dale of Merchants Collection was launched on Kickstarter in September 2018, and was fully funded in 13 hours. Sami Laakso thanked his backers and welcomed those who had backed his previous projects. Throughout the campaign Sami introduced all the animalfolk decks with background stories, techniques, and strategies for use. Backers were able to vote for their favorite animals in different polls during the campaign. There were no stretch goals offered during this campaign. In the end, 1,826 backers pledged €102,687 to help bring this project to life.

Dale of Merchants is a competitive card game series that takes a fresh approach to deck building. The game is easy to learn but offers great strategic depth. Each card can be used in a variety of ways that allows for a different game experience each time. In this new collection, eight new decks are released. Exotic animalfolk from all around the world bring new and interesting gameplay mechanics to the series. These decks offer variety by themselves, or they can be combined with any decks from the original Dale of Merchants and Dale of Merchants 2.

The cards are split into three different colors based on their complexity. Green character cards are beginner-friendly but still powerful. Yellow character cards have more complex abilities, and red character cards are the most advanced. Players using the red and yellow cards should have a good grasp on the game to use their full potential. In the game, players are aspiring merchants participating in trading competitions. Throughout the game, players embark on different quests or challenge opponents to a duel. The first player to build a complete merchant stall wins the game.
