Game On: The Quick and the Undead
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
Inside Up Games has released fan favorites like 7 Souls, Gorus Maximus, and Vault Assault. Their games are being played in over 60 countries around the world. Inside Up Games was created to manage and publish Conor McGoey’s game designs. Conor has been creating games since 2016 and continues to publish games the whole family loves.
The Quick and the Undead was launched on Kickstarter in October 2019. The game was funded quickly, and Conor offered backers the power to choose the order of the stretch goals. He also started a “Best Comment” contest with one free deluxe copy of the game as the prize. Conor encouraged originality, hilarity, and theme in the campaign comments and selected a final winner at the end of the campaign. Two stretch goals were met bringing an upgrade to the cards and an upgrade to the dice. By the end of the campaign, 381 backers pledged CA$ 19,085 to help bring this game to life.
In The Quick and the Undead, players ride into the Wild West and earn, steal, or shoot their way to victory. The game is set in the town of West Fort, which is overrun with undead. Players become outlaws who gain notoriety and show the undead inhabitants they mean business. The game is played over “days,” and each day is broken into three rounds of actions. This zombie western is fast-paced and exciting with the belief that you “shoot first, ask never.”
Each round, players simultaneously place an outlaw from their stash on an action space. Each player will take their turn to use their action space’s ability to intimidate, hunt, fight, or steal and earn loot from its income. At the end of each turn, and if there are no Undead in the street, players can purchase buildings and earn points. The final round of the game, “High Noon,” is triggered when all Undead have been removed from the town. Players add up their notoriety tokens, and the player with the highest sum of notoriety wins.
