Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Voodoo Games was founded in 2014 by Martin Muller and Andre Schillo. Based in Mainz, Germany, they work with international artists and creatives to release the best games. Their goal is to create fun and fascinating board and card games with smooth game mechanics, great designs, and easy to learn rules. Voodoo Games' latest project, Isles of Terror, has been developed for the last several years and is their biggest project to date.

Isles of Terror was launched on Kickstarter in January 2018. Fully funded within a few days, Voodoo Games posted updates for backers as stretch goals were met. Their goal with stretch goals was to use the additional money to improve the game and its components and add a few adventure and faction expansions that needed extra funding to create. A story narration was included with each update and Voodoo Games also went into more detail about different aspects of the game like miniatures and factions. By the end of the campaign, 1,406 backers pledged €117,948 to help bring this project to life.

In Isles of Terror, players get to embark on a sinister adventure of strategy, exploration, and conquest. The game can be experienced as a competitive or cooperative game of 1-5 players. Each game is based on an adventure with an overarching storyline. Those storylines can be played separately or as part of a linked campaign. Players explore different isles and overcome dangers in the form of minions, terrors, seasonal events, and unforeseen situations.

Players must carefully manage their resources as they advance into the jungles through fighting or negotiating with native inhabitants in order to get control of an area, raise camps, and strengthen your position. By the end of the game, victory points are added to determine a winner. Players can earn victory points by following scenario objectives and completing tasks and missions. Players can define their strategy in leading their expedition into the regions of the Isles of Terror. Each game is unique with the set up of area tiles and the seasonal effects available at the start of each round of play.
